One of Vancouver's premiere food carts!! Serving up amazing flavors, healthy choices (well, mostly) and sustainable options, the Kaboom Box will blow you away!

The Kaboom Box is up and running on Granville in downtown Vancouver. Formally the 'Fresh Local Wild' cart, Andrew Fielding has taken the helm, while co-founder Josh Wolfe has kept the name and is working on something new. The locally sourced game meat burgers, mouth-watering osyter po-boys and their famous hot smoked sockeye salmich remain, along with the fantastic location and great service. Make sure to stop by and say hello if you're in the 'hood!

Chinese Skewer King mystery solved

Media_httpvancouverst_ehhad

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the fate of Chinese Skewer King in the past month. A food cart looking very similar to Skewer King's was up for sale on craigslist and he hadn't been spotted at his Burrard and Hastings location for several weeks. I was reluctant to take down CSK's profile until I had confirmed information. That came this past weekend in an email from the king himself, John. He informed me they would be closed for the season, re-opening on March 1st this spring. CSK was a welcome addition to downtown's business district and a weekly staple of many office workers in the Bentall's and surrounding towers. I can't wait to see Chinese Skewer King back on the streets this spring!

Arturo's Mexico to Go

Media_httpvancouverst_ktljs

Arturo's Mexico to Go specializes in Mexican cuisine, offering authentic fare made from scratch  in their mobile kitchen. The meat is local and chemical free and the tortillas, salsas and guacamole are made fresh each day.

Media_httpvancouverst_dngtb

The menu is concise and consistently delicious, with something for everyone in the mood for Mexico to go. On our second visit, Amy and I went for broke, sampling most of what Arturo has to offer. The tortilla soup was a great start to a very satisfying meal, a perfect balance of flavour to get those tummy juices flowing and ready for more.

We followed that with a pork burrito bowl and a quesadilla, a tacotino and a beef burrito. The pork was fanstastic, complimenting the flavourful salad in the burrito bowl as well as hitting all the right notes in the tacotino.

The beef burrito was as expected, awesome! I had already tried the chicken earlier this month and the beef is as equally impressive!

Eli's Serious Sausage

Media_httpvancouverst_cgcpx

Eli's Serious Sausage is the newest food cart vendor to grace Vancouver's streets. Eli met with many sausage makers in the lower mainland and sampled their products.  He found one who's sausages stood out as far tastier than anything else available.  The best sausages he'd ever had.  Drew Dreissen is a fifth generation sausage maker with a true passion for his craft.  He is the man behind D-Orginal Sausage Company, a Main Street business dedicated to producing authentic German sausages using the best local meat and natural ingredients. The sausages are served with your choice of a fresh baked bread or pretzel bun sourced from a local bakery. Eli's menu has German style sausage, a hot Italian sausage, and one special sausage to change every week.  It comes on delicious bun from a local bakery, made fresh every morning. The meat is so good that it only needs a selection of simple condiments. His favourite is the German-style currywurst, which has currypowder and ketchup and I can personally see why!

You will be able to buy the sausage in a combo with a drink and choice of potato chips or warm pretzels.

Media_httpvancouverst_bogaa

No authentic currywurst meal is complete without a side of Curlys, a peanut snack and German favourite since 1963. Don't be fooled, this is no ordinary sausage cart!

Eli's Serious Sausage stands on the corner of Dunsmuir and Beatty by the Chinatown/Stadium skytrain entrance. 11:30am-6:00pm Monday through Friday You can also visit Eli's at various farmer's markets on the weekends. Be sure to stop by and check him out!
